John H. Christerson LAWRENCEBURG Herman Christerson, 86, Mike Street, died Sunday morning at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. He was the father of Robert Christerson of Mercer County and the brother of Mrs. McKee Coffman of Danville. A retired farmer and widower of Bessie Dennis Christerson, he is also survived by two daughters, two other sons, nine grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat -grandchildren.

(AP) State police divers this morning were trying find the bodies of four persons who apparently drowned Sunday night when a pickup truck plunged into the icy New River Gorge. The apparent victims were identified as the driver, 74-yearold Issac Eller of Piney View in the Beckley area; his wife, Shirley Eller, 39; their son, 8- year-old Issac James Eller; and their daughter Rosella Eller, 10. A pair of state police divers were able to recover the truck Sunday night from the New River with the assist of a crane, but none of the people riding in the truck were found.

It was reported when the truck was recovered that the back window in the cab had been broken out, but that none of the bodies were inside the vehicle. Police said that one of the family members was able to leap from the back of the truck before it went through a guardpost and down a 30 foot embankment into the river. She was identified as Myrl Eller, whose age was not immediately released. She was listed in satisfactory condition in Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley last night. Officers theorize that the accident, which happened at approximately 6 p.m., occurred when the truck hit a high bank on W.Va.

19 about 10 miles east of Beckley and went out of control, going through the guardrail. Police said that there were apparently three people, Eller, his wife and son, riding in the cab of the truck, while the two' girls were in the back of the vehicle in sleeping bags. State police said that five divers were being used in the search for the bodies this morning. 73 north of Morgantown when the truck she was riding in lost its brakes and went out of control. The victim was listed as Donna Butler of Van Nuys, Calif. She was riding as a relief driver in the vehicle, which was being driven by 53-year-old Harry Armstrong of Reno, when its brakes went out on a hill. When it became ap parent that the truck could not be controlled, the two persons jumped out. The woman was dead on arrival at University hospital in Morgantown, while Armstrong was admitted to the hospital.

(AP) The town that gained fame by its issuance of "legal wooden money" in the early 1930s has again issued a piece of its hardgrained legal tender.
