The following ranks are responsible for managing the department and chain of command as a whole

DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP

Meet the members who run the San Andreas Highway Patrol on a daily basis. Each member of our Chain of Command was carefully selected by members of the San Andreas Highway Patrol Command Staff, after undergoing a rigorous selection process. These members play a valuable role to the San Andreas Highway Patrol, by maintaining & updating department policies & procedures, managing the Field Training Officer program, operating the administration division, handling supervisor requests throughout the State of San Andreas, and much more. Read below to learn more about the roles each member.

The Commissioner of the Highway Patrol is the highest rank in the structure. The Commissioner is responsible for supervising the overall operation of the department and ensures that subordinates are operating in a proper fashion.

The Deputy Commissioner of the Highway Patrol is the second-highest ranking individual in the department. He/she is the Commissioner's assistant when it comes to department matters and serves as Interim Commissioner in his/her absence. The Deputy Commissioner is also a member of several sub offices and carries out any duties that may be necessary for the San Andreas Highway Patrol and its divisions to run smoothly and efficiently.

The Assistant Commissioner of the Highway Patrol is the third-in-command for the operations of the department. The Colonel is the San Andreas Highway Patrol Chain of Command Supervisor and the Professionalism and Ethics Supervisor

The Major is the first rank in the Chain of Command that is considered "Administration Staff" Members of Command Staff are the upper echelon of the San Andreas Highway Patrol operations, and as such, members chosen to be promoted to the rank of Major must have demonstrated exceptional leadership and management skills. Majors are responsible for overseeing the Patrol and Administration Bureaus. Majors are responsible for their perspective command team under each division.

The following ranks are responsible for managing the chain of command as well as all bureau's & divisions

Captain is the rank directly above Lieutenant in the rank structure. Captains are responsible for managing all Highway Patrol Chain of Command as well as members. Captains are responsible for all department documents, Chain of Command Policies and overall member performance, The Captains are the leaders of the Bureau of Professional Standards Program and will run this program to the best of their ability under direct supervision of the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Commanders and Majors.

The Lieutenant is the first Senior Staff rank in the San Andreas Highway Patrol. Members of this rank have shown increased dedication to the department as well as proven proficient in their field knowledge. Lieutenants are also responsible for supervising the Bureau of Professional Standards Program, managing department rosters, and managing patrol log reports.

In Addition to that they will supervise most members and will maintain all department documentation, and will do more Administrative Work, Supervise Media Outreach and are Liaisons to the Development Department.

The following ranks are responsible for managing regular member inquiries, field training, evaluation of highway patrol personnel

The Master Sergeant is the final San Andreas Highway Patrol Staff rank and is directly above the rank of Staff Sergeant. The San Andreas Highway Patrol has 4 Master Sergeant positions, and members of this rank are responsible for leading other department non-commissioned officers (Corporals & Sergeants). In addition, Master Sergeants monitor department complaints, commendations, Leave of Absence Requests & overall member performance.

The Staff Sergeant is the next rank directly above Senior Sergeant's. Staff Sergeants have an increased responsibility within the department and supervises the department's Bureau of Professional Standards program. Staff Sergeants directly supervise the department Corporal's & Senior Corporals.

The Sergeant is the first rank considered department staff. Troopers that have reached this rank have demonstrated their leadership skills and have passed the Sergeant's Exam. Sergeants handle transfer and reserve requests for the department and supervise the department Corporal's & Senior Corporal's.

The following ranks are responsible for managing regular member inquiries & field training next to still being in training as newly appointed chain of command member.


Senior Corporals are the next rank after Corporal. Senior Corporals handle for example, transfer and reserve requests under the supervision of the department sergeants.

The Corporals are the first rank in the Chain of Command. Corporals handle evaluation ride-alongs as part of the Bureau of Professional Standards Division program along with other Chain of Command related duties.

The following ranks all are regular highway patrol personnel, they are responsible for day to day patrol operations and will man the Road Patrol Division as well as all other Highway Patrol Bureau's & Divisions.


The Final Member Rank within the San Andreas Highway Patrol is Chief Master Trooper. Master Troopers are promoted to this rank because they have shown their dedication to the departments Bureau of Field Training and are within this rank because they are being pre-selected for the Chain of Command Corporal Selection Program. These people would make skilled candidates for a Chain of Command position.

Next is the rank of Master Trooper. Troopers are promoted to this rank because they have shown the ability to be thorough, professional, and would possibly make good candidates for a Chain of Command position.

After the rank of Trooper First Class comes the rank of Senior Trooper. Senior Troopers have demonstrated increased knowledge in the department and its policies, and as such, are eligible to pursue more opportunities in the department.

Directly above the rank of Trooper, is the rank of Trooper First Class. Troopers that have been promoted to Trooper First Class are able to apply to be Field Training Officers.

Once a Probationary Trooper is eligible for promotion, he/she will be promoted to the rank of Trooper, except for in certain circ*mstances in which a Probationary Trooper may be promoted to Trooper First Class in a situation

Probationary Trooper is the rank assigned to all new members of the department. Probationary Troopers are required to complete three ride-alongs per our FTO program guidelines, in order to be certified for solo patrol and eligible for promotion.
