It may come as no surprise, but I’m a huge chocolate fan (dark chocolate, preferred). And I enjoy making crafts that look edible, but aren’t. Typically I’ll make candies or other desserts, but I wanted to start making things that look like chocolate. When I did a search for chocolate bar molds, there surprisingly wasn’t much out there – mostly generic looking rectangles. But I wanted one that anyone would look at and immediately know it was a chocolate bar.

Therefore the classic crafter thought kicked in – “I’ll just make it myself.” So looking into various custom mold making options, I found Amazing Mold Putty. This stuff is fantastic for making quick littleflexiblesilicone molds. They’re food-safe as well so you can actually make real chocolate bars with the mold as well so it functions as an actual chocolate mold as well. But so far I’ve used it to make chocolate chalk and chocolate bath bombs.

To use Amazing Mold Putty, you mix equal amounts of Putty A and Putty B (the silicone and rubber mold putty). Putty A is white and putty B is yellow so that you can easily see how well you’ve combine them. You want to make sure you mix them thoroughly so that you get a pale yellow color. If you don’t, you’ll have different textures with some parts being more flexible than others.

Once mixed together, you then press the putty around the object you’re making a custom mold of. Make sure the putty is not too thick or it will be difficult to remove the item.

Let it cure for 20 minutes and then remove the item. Then your new homemade chocolate mold is ready to use.

Scoop out equal amounts of putty A and putty B of the Amazing Mold Putty.

Mix them together thoroughly. It’s important that they are mixed together completely so that you create an even chocolate mold. This is why the putties are different colors – it’s so you can see if they have been mixed together properly.

Once it’s completely mixed, press it over the top of the chocolate bar. I ended up using just half of the chocolate bar as I liked the look of the smaller bar of chocolate.

Tip: Make sure to push the putty all of the chocolate. This ensures you’ll get all of the details. It’s also a good idea to start pushing in the middle and work your way to the outsides. This will help remove any air pockets. If you have an air pocket, that means the details will not transfer to the mold.

Flip the chocolate bar over and press the mold putty around the edge. Try to keep the putty relatively thin as this will make it more flexible.

Notice how my chocolate bar ended up breaking. This is okay since I had already gotten the detail from the top of the bar. Plus the putty feels like clay so any minor details will not transfer. This is why it’s important to push the putty into any details you do want transferred.
