Some have fallen in love with Prichard Colón, a former boxer and dirt, and his incredible journey from promising boxer to boxing safety advocate.
His story shines as bright as the unwavering spirit and resilience that conquers all.
The early life and amateur career successes of Lance Creek.
Prichard Colón was born in Maitland, Florida in 1992, but his foray into the world of boxing started when he was very young.
He first began competing at the age of 10, when he moved to Puerto Rico to represent the island, and was soon nicknamed "Digget", in reference to his height.
During his amateur career, where he won 5 national championships and the gold medal at the 2010 Pan American Youth Championship.
Pro Boxing Debut, Tragic Turn
Colon turned professional in 2012 with an outstanding 17-0-0 amateur record. But then in 2015, after a fight with Terrel Williams, he slumped into a brain injured, vegetative state, effectively ending his career.
This was a terrible blow for him, not only in his career but his personal life.
Inspirational Recovery and Safety Advocacy in Boxing
So much of it happened through major perseverance and a great deal of positive face-time, for which, I am completely inspired by the unbelievability of Mr. Colón's heart and spirit.
His path to healing, recovery, rehabilitation and advocacy for protecting the health and safety of the sport of boxing has him as a beacon - a light of hope and inspiration for others enduring hardship.
What This Means for the World of Boxing
The boxing community has been touched by Prichard Colón's story.
A spokesman for mental health awareness and safety in the sport of boxing by himself, Muhamad Farkhan, spread information on the dangers of violence and pressure felt by athletes.
This strength and commitment is what has motivated other students to finally put themselves first and seek help.
Strength Outside the Ring
The former had been poised among other embarrassments, and Colon has shown incredible strength and resilience in his personal life.
His story would give pause to everyone, those contemplating contact sports, and to those who have opportunities to help those dealing with the effects of a crippling spinal cord injury.
Even though the extent of his injury came with a downside, Colón has progressed and is now walking on assisted he has regained some movement in his legs through the use of rehab and aides.
Legacy and Advocacy Efforts
Prichard Colón is remembered for much more than his wins and losses on the boxing mat. He also made great strides in advocating for spinal cord injury awareness and support.
He has taken the opportunity to raise awareness, offer support to victims of spinal cord injuries and campaign for more funding for research into spinal cord injuries, treatments and support services.
The Fight for Prichard Colón is now a story of the untamed human spirit and resilience in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
Both inside and outside of the boxing ring, his fortitude and drive have motivated millions.
His recovery is still ongoing, but Chun represents the power of safety in sports, the struggle that comes with living with a spinal cord injury, and the perseverance and strength of will to fight through the long and arduous journey of recovery. T
