Maryland is one of ten states who have active assault weapons bans with California having some of the most restrictive gun laws in America. Most of these assault weapons bans tend to focus on semi-automatic rifle platforms like the AR-15 given that they are among the most lethal kinds of guns available.
Whether an assault weapons ban is justified is highly dependent on the values of a soc

But unless Governor Newsom and the state legislature take immediate action, we will fail this obligation, as funding for victim services will be slashed across California.
The federal Victims of Crime Act Fund (VOCA) is at the center of California’s response to supporting victims of crime, but as the fund’s balance has declined precipitously

The Assembly Appropriations Committee recently scuttled Assembly Bill 2945 during its suspense-file hearing. That was the only reasonable course given the bill’s massive costs in the face of a $45-billion budget deficit. The state doesn’t have money for good ideas, let along bad ones.

There was something familiar about the card. And then I got the connection.

I love when creativity in one genre begets creativity in another.
As I looked at the artistically striking handmade birthday card I received, I wondered if the creator, whom I had never met, had secret access to me in my long-ago Greenwich Village apartment. The card pictured a young woman with long hair and a cat on a window sill watching her work, a scene I had lived and written about many times. Only now it had a dish of marmalade.
Then it came to me.
